Develop the design into the machine with front-end development

By collecting user research during concept creation, design/development, and after the product is live, we can entirely focus on the user and their experience. Here is a list of user research methods grouped by where in my UX process I use them.

Web-oriented design tools

Gartner, Forrester, and International Data Corporation are three of many research companies who gather data through quantitative surveys across many industries and products. Before conducting research, it is best to investigate if a relevant report exists already. Many times, research companies have the resources to perform much more thorough studies than small companies or teams are capable of handling. Through them, industry-specific demographic data helps define primary archetype users without the need to recreate studies previously conducted on a grand scale.

Naming conventions

Once you have defined the target audience, it is time to meet with your archetype users. This introduction can be in the form of one-on-one or phone interviews. The essential part is the set of conversational questions you create to learn about their goals and aspirations, as well as the path they take to reach them. Through this attitudinal interview, you can gain knowledge about your user’s path and the pain they feel along the way. Once the meetings have concluded, you can leverage their words to produce personas, profiles, and user journeys based on the collected empirical data.
